About Catholic Volunteers in Florida

Catholic Volunteers serve full time (40 hours per week) for at least one year and participate in the CVIF service and development program. Our volunteers have always been a diverse group of dedicated individuals ready to serve. Our program is open to people of all ages but the majority of volunteers have been in their mid-20’s to early 30’s. We accept applicants from all over the United States and have had volunteers from a variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds. We encourage married couples to apply together but in the case where one spouse wants to participate without the other, we request that the spouse still move to Florida in support of the process.

Each volunteer’s placement is a careful match between their skills and interests and the needs of the service site. Catholic Volunteers serve a variety of positions including social work, legal services, assisted living, teaching, and health care. Placement is made to facilitate each volunteer’s response to a “call” to service. Full-time volunteerism demands flexibility, commitment and vision – it is much more than a “job.”

What Does It Mean To “Become Who You Are”?

Catholic Volunteers in Florida encourages young adults to spend a year serving others. We challenge volunteers to live simply, practice active spirituality, do justice, create community, and grow into the person they essentially already are but needed the time to become.  A service year is all about becoming your true self more fully through the challenges, frustrations, joys, highs and lows, victories and defeats that you will face during your service. Catholic Volunteers embrace the process of transformation by allowing God and the community to help shape them.
