Having a CV serving at your organization means more than having an enthusiastic, dedicated worker at a low cost, it means participating in a program that is directed toward the service of others. Our volunteers bring enthusiasm, open minds, new perspectives, and a willingness to engage with and learn from the staff and the communities they serve.

Our volunteers are college graduates who are eager to use their education to contribute to the well-being of those who have not enjoyed the privileges that have been theirs. They are capable, dedicated, and ready for responsible positions; for example, they serve as case managers, teachers, legal aid assistants, resident assistants, mentor match specialists, and coordinators of volunteers and although CVIF is based in the Catholic Tradition, applicants from other faiths are welcome.

As a potential service site you would be required to make a monthly financial commitment toward the support of the volunteer. There are no benefits that you have to provide in addition to the service site fee. CVIF handles the dissemination of the living allowance to the volunteers, taxes, and health insurance, as well as provides housing from the service site fee received from the service sites. Other expectations of the service sites include adequate supervision, mentoring, evaluations, and allowance for in-service leave for CVIF activities.

Bishop Grady Villas: CVs serve as resident assistants. Bishop Grady Villas supports persons with disabilities to use their God-given gifts to achieve greater independence, physical and emotional well-being, and spiritual growth. We empower these individuals from throughout Central Florida to reach their full potential through Christ-centered, personalized and wholistic residential, vocational and employment services, and community support.

Big Bend Homeless Coalition: CVs serve in Tallassee as case managers. Big Bend’s mission is to end homelessness in the Big Bend through leadership, education, advocacy, and the provision of quality services. By assessing and coordinating interagency communication and services, we avoid unnecessary duplication of effort and close gaps in services. Big Bend educates themselves and the community about the nature and extent of homelessness, including the needs of the people who are living through the experience of homelessness. We advocate for increased community, political and financial support for the homeless population and prevention of homelessness.

Catholic Charities of Orlando: CVs serve as an emergency services coordinator, disaster relief coordinator, and case worker/manager. The Emergency Family Assistance program serves clients who are facing financial difficulties due to an unexpected financial emergency.  The crisis generally involves the loss of a job, unexpected medical expenses, car repairs, a family dissolution or unexpected expenses due to natural disasters or a death in the family. The program may provide financial assistance with rent/mortgage and/or utilities and referrals to other services within the community.

Catholic Charities of Venice School on Wheels ProgramCV serves as a program coordinator/educational director. Hundreds of women from Mexico, Guatemala, Haiti and El Salvador and other countries are isolated in worker camps and trailer parks in rural Immokalee and are functionally illiterate.  Since the women are homebound and have no way to come to the Catholic Charities for English classes, we bring the education to them through the School on Wheels Program. Classes take place in the home with a one-on-one tutoring session.

Catholic Legal Services: CVs servein Miami as a paralegal or attorney. The mission of Catholic Legal Services (CCLS) is to implement teaching by providing professional immigration services to South Florida’s refugee and immigrant communities and attorney representation before the Citizenship and Immigration Services, the Immigration Courts and the Board of Immigration Appeals.  Over 1000 individuals seek the services of CCLS each month: individuals seeking to reunite with their families; political and religious refugees seeking safety and security; essential religious workers seeking to minister to U.S. religious communities; battered spouses and their children. These individuals confront a complex immigration law and a confusing bureaucracy. Many have unhealed wounds from a painful past. Many encounter unexpected bigotry and barriers as they adjust to a new culture and a new way of life. They face an uncertain future.

Coalition of the Hungry and Homeless/WINVET: CV serves as a case manager. The WIN/Vet Program believes no veteran should go without a safe, decent, affordable place to live or the support needed to achieve their highest possible potential. Homeless veterans have distinct needs and shared challenges such as substance abuse and alcoholism, mental illness and service related disabilities. Unemployment is a consequence of an inability to function in their current life circumstance. These issues are addressed in a stable, nurturing environment that requires individual self-discipline, accountability, organization and treatment and counseling. Transitional housing is provided in small scattered site homes. Individual attention is given to each veteran based on their unique needs.

The Florida Catholic Conference of Bishops: CV serves as a research assistant. Through the Florida Conference of Catholic Bishops, the (Arch)bishops of Florida carry out policy and advocacy activities related to state and federal legislation and agencies of government. The Florida Catholic Conference coordinates educational and pastoral activities within the Province of Miami on behalf of the bishops.

L’Arche Harbor House: CV serves as a resident assistant. L’Arche is a residential facility that serves the persons with disabilities. We believe that by creating an environment where people with developmental disabilities can share their gifts, we are affecting a positive change in the world. We believe that these shared gifts have the power to transform the lives of those who are open to receiving them. We celebrate the unique value of every person and recognize our need for one another. We resolve to explore and appreciate the diverse cultures and faith practices within L’Arche and to work together toward a more evolved and caring human society.

Morning Star School in Tampa and in Orlando: CVs serve as teachers and teacher assistants. With over 50 years of special education experience, Morning Star School is able to make a difference in the lives of the students we serve. We help children from all backgrounds and faiths shine like the “Stars” that they are. If your child needs a safe and caring learning environment where his or her uniqueness is celebrated, then please give us a call. Pathways to Care: CVs serve as resident assistants. Pathways to Care (PTC) is a 40-bed, not-for-profit respite center dedicated to providing health, housing and hope to Central Florida’s most vulnerable homeless men and women. PTC provides short-term recuperative care and support services for homeless adults in need of temporary housing in order to recover from an acute medical illness or injury following admission to a medical facility.

 St. James Catholic School in Miami and St Mary’s Cathedral School: CVs serve as teachers or teaching assistants. The mission of these schools is provide quality education rooted in the Gospel message and teachings of the Catholic Church.  The faculty and administration work in partnership with parents and the Parish Community to promote the development of the whole person. The school fosters the spiritual, religious, social, and intellectual growth of the students as well as their emotional and physical well being.

St Joseph’s Hospital: CV serves as a health education outreach and volunteer coordinator. St. Joseph’s Hospital strives to be the regional leader in medical excellence by improving the health of our community through accessible, compassionate and family-focused health care services. Founded as a mission by the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany, St. Joseph’s Hospital has served the health care needs of the Tampa Bay community since 1934.
